High-Pressure Fuel Pump: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
Do not loosen any fittings or plugs on the high-pressure fuel pump.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
- Loosen the clamp.
Torque: 42 lb.in (4.8 Nm)
- Release the clamps and disconnect the by-pass hose and the vacuum hose.
- Remove the bolt and position the lower RH air cleaner outlet pipe aside.
Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)
- Loosen the CAC intake lower pipe RH clamp.
- Loosen the CAC intake upper pipe RH clamp.
-
- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Detach the retainer and position the EVAP canister purge valve tube aside.
- Detach the coolant hose from the starter motor bracket.
-
- Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the bypass valve electrical connector and remove the CAC intake pipe RH.
-
NOTE: When removing or installing the high-pressure fuel pump noise insulator, spreading the openings will reduce the risk of damage.
Remove the high-pressure fuel pump noise insulator.
- Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump electrical connector.
-
NOTE: To release the fuel pressure in the high-pressure fuel tube, wrap the high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts with a shop towel to absorb any residual fuel pressure during the loosening of high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts.
Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump-to-fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts, then remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump-to-fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube.
- Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump fuel feed tube quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling
.
-
NOTE: Alternately loosen the high-pressure fuel pump nuts one complete revolution at a time.
Remove the high-pressure fuel pump nuts and then remove the high-pressure fuel pump.
- Remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump O-ring seal.
- Remove the high-pressure fuel pump tappet.
- Inspect the high-pressure fuel pump tappet. If any flat spots or scoring are found, especially in the indicated areas, then inspect the high-pressure fuel pump and the high-pressure fuel pump tappet drive lobe. Install new components as needed.
