Valve Cover LH: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  2. Remove the LH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
    • Disconnect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.

  3. Loosen the clamps and remove the upper CAC outlet pipe.

  4. Remove the throttle body. Refer to: Throttle Body .
    1. Disconnect the EVAP tube quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    2. Disconnect the EVAP purge valve electrical connector.
    3. Lift the EVAP purge valve off of the intake manifold mounting tab.

  5. Disconnect the vacuum tube quick release couplings and position the tube aside. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  6. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors and retainers.

    1. Remove the vacuum harness pressure sensor bolt.
    2. Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors.
    3. Detach the wiring harness and vacuum harness retainers.

    1. Remove the ground wire bolt.
    2. Detach the retainers and position the ground wire aside.

  7. Detach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.

    • Disconnect theCMP electrical connectors.

    • Detach the vacuum hose retainer.

    • Slide the insulator up to access the CHT electrical connector.

    • Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors and detach the harness and vacuum hose retainers.

  8. Detach the engine wiring harness and vacuum hose retainers.

  9. Remove the bolts and position TC boost solenoid aside.

  10. Disconnect the TC vacuum supply hose.

  11. Remove the LH coil-on-plug assemblies. Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug .
  12. Remove the oil level indicator.

  13. Loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.

  14. Remove and discard the gasket.

    • Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.

  15. Inspect the spark plug seals. Remove any damaged seals using the special tools. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer.

  16. Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
