Disassembly And Assembly Of Subassemblies: Piston: Disassembly

NOTE:
The RH and LH pistons are similar in appearance but
differ in design specifications. The pistons must be installed in the correct cylinder bank or serious damage to the engine will occur.
- Remove and discard the piston rings.
- Remove and discard the piston pin retainers.
- Remove the piston pin.

NOTE: If the piston and connecting rod are to be reinstalled, they must be assembled in the same orientation. Mark the piston orientation to the connecting rod for reassembly.
Separate the piston from the connecting rod.
- Clean and inspect the piston and the connecting rod. Refer to: Piston Inspection .
