Oil Pump: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect 2.3L EcoBoost .
  3. Remove the following items:
    1. Refer to: Cowl Panel .
    2. Refer to: Engine Front Cover 2.3L EcoBoost  .
    • Remove the bolts and the hood release handle and detach the retainer
    • Remove the retainers and the upper radiator sight shield.

  5. Install Special Service Tool: 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine.

  6. Loosen the clamps and remove the nuts and the CAC inlet tube.

  7. Loosen the clamps and remove the CAC outlet tube.

    • Disconnect the electrical connectors and wiring retainer.
    • Remove the nut and stud.
    • Remove the bolts and position the A/C compressor aside and support.

    • Remove the oil pan drain bolt and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
    • Install the oil pan drain bolt.

      Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

  10. Remove and discard the engine oil filter.

  11. Remove the oil pan-to-transmission bolts.

  12. Remove the oil pan-to-transmission bolt.

  13. Remove the bolts and the oil pan.

  14. Remove the bolts and the oil pickup and screen.

  15. Discard the oil pickup and screen O-ring seal.

    1. WARNING: Take extra care when handling the compressed spring.

      Release the tension on the tensioner spring.

    2. Remove the shoulder bolts and the tensioner and position the oil pump chain aside.

  17. Remove the bolt and oil pump sprocket.
