Oil Cooler: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove and discard the engine oil filter and drain the engine oil. Refer to: Engine Oil Draining and Filling .
- If equipped, remove the retainer and the wiring harness cover.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors and detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer from the engine mount.
- Remove the PCM. Refer to: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) .

- Using hose locking pliers, clamp the oil cooler coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Locking Pliers
- Release the hose clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Detach the retainer and position the coolant hose aside.
- Remove the fasteners and the oil cooler.
- Remove and discard the gasket.

NOTE: If metal or aluminum material is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. Failure to correct these concerns may cause engine failure. To diagnose mechanical concerns, refer to Engine System - General Information (Except Hybrid) .
Inspect the oil cooler.
