Cylinder Head - LH: Installation

- 2.NOTE: If the cylinder head is replaced, a new secondary timing chain tensioner will need to be installed.
Install the cylinder head and the new bolts. Tighten in the sequence shown in 5 stages:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
- Stage 3: Tighten 90 degrees.
- Stage 4: Tighten 90 degrees
- Stage 5: Tighten 45 degrees.
- 4.NOTE: The valve tappets must be installed in their original positions.NOTE: Coat the valve tappets with clean engine oil prior to installation.
Install the valve tappets.
- 5.NOTE: Lubricate the CMP sensor O-ring seals with clean engine oil.
Install the LHCMP sensors and the bolts.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- 6.
Install the ground stud bolt. Position back the CKP wire retainer. Connect the 2 LHCMP sensor electrical connectors.- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) then an additional 45 degrees.
- 8.NOTE: Apply clean engine oil to the threads of the high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts.
- Position the high-pressure fuel tube and hand start the flare nuts and bracket bolt.
- Tighten the High-pressure fuel tube-to-RH fuel rail flare nut in 3 stages:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 133 lb.in (15 Nm)
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 30 °
- Stage 3: Tighten to 24 lb.ft (32 Nm)
- Tighten the High-pressure fuel tube-to-LH fuel rail flare nut in 3 stages:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 133 lb.in (15 Nm)
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 30 °
- Stage 3: Tighten to 24 lb.ft (32 Nm)
- Tighten the high-pressure fuel tube bracket bolt in 2 stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 45 °
- 9.
- Using a new gasket, install the coolant crossover manifold and coolant inlet tube assembly and bolts.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 45 degrees
- Using a hose clamp remover/installer, connect the heater hose.
- Using a new gasket, install the coolant crossover manifold and coolant inlet tube assembly and bolts.
- 11.
Install the LH camshafts. Refer to: Camshafts .
- 12.
Install the LH turbocharger. Refer to: Fuel Charging and Controls - Turbocharger, 3.5L GTDI .
- 13.
- Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.
- Install the oil pan drain plug.
- Tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- 15.
Install a new engine oil filter.- 1.
Stage 1: Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

Stage 2: Tighten an additional 180 degrees.
