Removal And Installation

WARNING:
Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side airbags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side airbag deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE:
Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.
- 1.
Remove the front seat. Refer to Seat - Front .
- 2.
Remove the side airbag. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System .
- 3.
Remove the head restraint guide sleeves. Refer to Head Restraint Guide Sleeve .
- 4.
Position the seat backrest cover from between the seat cushion and backrest cushion.- Release the seat backrest cover straps.
- Release the seat backrest cover J-clips.
- 6.NOTE: Use care when separating the seat backrest cover from the hook-and-loop strip, or the hook-and-loop strip may be torn from the backrest foam pad.
Partially invert the seat backrest cover by releasing the hook and loop strip and remove the lower hog rings from the support wires.
- 7.NOTE: Note the side airbag deployment chute routing for correct installation.
Continue to invert the seat backrest cover.
- Route the side airbag deployment chute through the slot in the foam.
- 9.WARNING: Inspect the seat side airbag, airbag cavity, mounting surface and deployment chute for damage or the presence of foreign material. Remove all foreign material. Install a new side airbag if it is damaged. Install a new deployment chute if the deployment chute is damaged. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side airbag deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.WARNING: If the seat side airbag cover has been damaged or separated from its mounting, or if the airbag material has been exposed, install a new seat side airbag assembly. Never try to repair the seat side airbag assembly. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side airbag deploying incorrectly, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
