Selector Lever Cable - Floor Shift: Removal

- 1.
Prior to replacing the selector lever cable for a no start or high shift effort concern, verify the selector lever cable to bracket clip is fully seated at the transmission and selector lever assembly. Unseated cables can cause selector lever cable binding and prevent the manual shaft from completely returning to the P (Park) position.

- 2.
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to
Jacking and Lifting
.
- 3.
Position the selector lever in DRIVE.
Expedition
- 4.
Remove the selector lever trim ring and the console tray insert.

- 5.
Remove the screw, raise the console upper trim panel and disconnect the ambient light electrical connector and remove the trim panel.

Remove the bolts and position the selector lever aside.

- 7.
Unlatch and position aside the selector lever bezel.

Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever arm and the selector lever housing.

Navigator
- 9.
Remove the selector lever trim ring.

- 10.
Raise the console upper trim panel and disconnect the ambient light electrical connector and remove the trim panel.

Remove the bolts and position the selector lever aside.

Unlatch and position aside the selector lever bezel.

Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever arm.

Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever housing.

Push the rubber grommet and selector lever cable through the floor pan.

Remove the retainers and the transmission shield.

Detach the selector lever cable from the routing clip.

Clean the cable adjustment lock of any debris.

NOTE:
To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable between the manual control lever and the selector lever cable bracket.
Rotate the cable adjustment lock upward and remove the selector lever cable from the manual control lever.
