Pinpoint Test A : The Power Liftgate Is Inoperative: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Lincoln Navigator and 2017 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Refer to Power Liftgate , for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
Refer to Body Closures .
During power opening and/or power closing operation, the LTM receives inputs from the following system components:
- Liftgate control switches
- Pinch strips
- Power liftgate motor position sensors (integral to the power liftgate motor assembly)
- Forkbolt and sector gear switches (integral to the power liftgate latch)
During power opening and/or power closing operation, the LTM provides outputs to the following system components:
- Power liftgate clutch (integral to the power liftgate motor assembly)
- Power liftgate motor
- Power liftgate cinch motor (integral to the power liftgate latch)
- Power liftgate chime
LTM DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
| DTC | Description | Fault Trigger Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| B106E | Solid State Driver Disabled Due to Short Circuit | Sets when the LTM detects a short to ground from the power liftgate clutch power circuit. The power liftgate is disabled until the fault is corrected and this DTC is cleared (unless LTM DTC B106F is also present). |
| B106F | Module Disabled Due to External Fault | Sets when the LTM has permanently disabled the power liftgate clutch power circuit due to a repetitive circuit overload. This DTC cannot be cleared. Repair the cause of the excessive high current craw from the clutch actuator circuit. |
| B1179 | Latch Motor Circuit Short to Battery | Sets when the LTM detects a short to battery from one of the latch motor circuits. |
| B117A | Latch Motor Circuit Short to Ground | Sets when the LTM detects a short to ground from one of the latch motor circuits. |
| B117B | Latch Motor Circuit Open | Sets when the LTM detects an open from one of the latch motor circuits. |
| B2418 | Sensor Power Short to Ground | Sets when the LTM detects a short to ground from the position sensor 5-volt power circuit. |
| B2419 | Sensor 1 Invalid | Sets when the LTM detects the position sensor feedback signals are not correct. |
| B2420 | Sensor 2 Invalid | Sets when the LTM detects the position sensor feedback signals are not correct. |
| B2552 | Vbatt. 2 Circuit Open | Sets when the LTM does not detect battery voltage from the high current power feed circuit. |
| B2819 | Gate Motor Circuit Short to Battery | Sets when the LTM detects a short to battery from one of the power liftgate motor circuits. |
| B2908 | Latch Switch Invalid | Sets when the LTM detects the liftgate is not in the fully latched (primary) position at the beginning of the self-test. This may also set if the LTM does not detect a change in the latch status during latch releasing/cinching. |
| B2935 | Drive Unit Failure | Sets when the time to complete a LTM self-test cycle (power open and power close to fully latched position) exceeds 20 seconds. |
| B2936 | Gate Motor Open | Sets when the LTM detects an open from one of the power liftgate motor circuits. |
| B2937 | Gate Motor Short to Ground | Sets when the LTM detects a short to ground from one of the power liftgate motor circuits. |
| B2939 | Gate Clutch Short to Ground or Open | Sets when the LTM detects an open or short to ground from the actuator clutch power circuit. |
Possible Causes
- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Power liftgate latch
- Power liftgate rod
- Motor/clutch assembly
- LTM
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Inspect the BJB fuse 36 (30A).
- Inspect the BCM fuse 8 (10A) (Expedition) or 9 (10A) (Navigator).
