PINPOINT TEST A : The Cruise Control Is Inoperative

  1. A1 CHECK FOR PCM DTCs

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to Electronic Engine Controls .
    No  GO to  A2.

  2. A2 CHECK FOR SCCM DTCs

    • Using a scan tool, perform the SCCM self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    Yes  For LH steering wheel switch DTCs, GO to Pinpoint Test C .For all other SCCM DTCs, REFER to Steering Column Switches .
    No  GO to  A3.

  3. A3 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH (BOO1) AND CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATOR SWITCH (BOO2) PIDs

    • Using a scan tool, view the PCM PIDs.
    • Monitor the PCM PIDs BOO1 (stoplamp switch) and BOO2 (cruise control deactivator switch) while applying and releasing the brake pedal.
      Brake Pedal Position BOO1 PID BOO2 PID
      Released Off Off
      Applied lightly On Off
      Applied firmly On On

    Do the PID values agree with the brake pedal position? 

    Yes  If equipped with a floor shift, GO to  A4.If equipped with a column shift, GO to  A5.
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test B .

  4. A4 MONITOR THE TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) PID

    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Powertrain DataLogger.
    • Monitor the transmission range PID (TR).
    • Select DRIVE.

    Does the PID value agree with the TR selector lever position? 

    Yes  GO to  A6.
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test B .

  5. A5 MONITOR THE PRNDL DISPLAY

    • Monitor the PRNDL display in the IPC.
    • Select DRIVE.

    Does the PRNDL display agree with the TR selector lever position? 

    Yes  GO to  A6.
    No  REFER to Instrumentation, Message Center, and Warning Chimes .

  6. A6 CHECK THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH

    • Using a scan tool, view SCCM PIDs.
    • Press each cruise control switch while monitoring the SCCM PIDs.

      Low level 2-button switch 

      Cruise Control Switch PID Value
      - None pressed
      CNCL/RES (pressed/released) On/Off
      ON/OFF (pressed/released) On/Off
      SET + (pressed/released) On/Off
      SET - (pressed/released) On/Off

      High-level 3-button switch 

      Cruise Control Switch PID Value
      - None pressed
      CNCL/RES (pressed/released) On/Off
      ON (pressed/released) On/Off
      OFF (pressed/released) On/Off
      SET + (pressed/released) On/Off
      SET - (pressed/released) On/Off

    Does the PID value agree with the switch position? 

    Yes  GO to  A7.
    No  If only one switch does not display the correct PID value, INSTALL a new LH steering wheel switch. REFER to Steering Column Switches .Otherwise, GO to Pinpoint Test C .

  7. A7 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all the PCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Electronic Engine Controls .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
