Pinpoint Test E : C1222, C1296, C1297, C1298, C1299: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Refer to Vehicle Dynamic Systems , for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation
The wheel speed sensor and encoder generate and send a square wave signal to the ABS module which is proportional to the wheel speed. The ABS module compares the wheel speed inputs from all the wheel speed sensors to determine an impending wheel lockup. Incorrect tire size or tire pressure can set these DTCs as well. DTCs set in the ignition cycle can only be cleared by cycling the ignition off and on once the fault has been corrected.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
| DTC | Description | Fault Trigger Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| C1222 | Speed Wheel Mismatch | This DTC sets in the ignition cycle when the vehicle speed exceeds 20 km/h (12 mph) and the ABS module detects a difference between wheel speed sensor signals. This DTC can also be set by damaged encoders, mismatched wheel or tire sizes or driving the vehicle on one or more deflated tires. |

These DTCs set in the ignition cycle when the vehicle speed exceeds 20 km/h (12 mph). The appropriate DTC sets if the ABS module does not receive a signal from the wheel speed sensor. These DTCs can also be set by an excessive wheel speed sensor-to-encoder air gap or a damaged encoder, mismatched wheel or tire sizes or driving the vehicle on one or more deflated tires. |
Possible Causes
- ABS module
- Wheel speed sensor encoder
- Wheel speed sensor
