  1. AD1 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: BPP Switch C278 .
    • Measure:

      Ground

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

    Yes  GO to  AD2
No  VERIFY the BJB fuse 43 (5A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  2. AD2 BYPASS THE BPP SWITCH

NOTE: If the fuse in the jumper wire fails, refer to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.

    • Ignition ON.
    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C278-1

      C278-4

    Do the stoplamps illuminate?

Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new BPP switch. REFER to Stoplamp Switch .
No  LEAVE the jumper wire connected. GO to  AD3
  3. AD3 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT TO THE BCM FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2280B-28
      GFD134422Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY
      Ground

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. For Expedition, GO to  AD5For Navigator, VERIFY the BCM fuse 15 (15A) is OK. If OK, GO to  AD4
No  REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit.
  4. AD4 BYPASS THE BCM

NOTE: If the fuse in the jumper wire fails, refer to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.

    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2280D-14

      Positive Battery Terminal
      GFD135809Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY

    Do the stoplamps illuminate?

Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  AD5
No  REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the BCM stoplamp output circuit for an open.
  5. AD5 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to BCM Hardware Testing ..
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
