Pinpoint Test G : The Analog Tachometer Is Inoperative

  1. G1 PERFORM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to Electronic Engine Controls .
    No  GO to  G2.

  2. G2 PERFORM THE IPC SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .
    No  GO to  G3.

  3. G3 PERFORM THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC PIDs.
    • Select the IPC tachometer (TACH_IND) PID. Command the tachometer on and off while monitoring the tachometer.

    Does the tachometer begin at 0 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM), increase to 7, 000 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) then return to 0 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Electronic Engine Controls .
    No  Refer to IPC Hardware Testing .
