Side Airbag: Removal

WARNING: The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required. For correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Remove the front seat. REFER to: Front Seat .
  2. Detach the wire harness electrical connector retainers and position aside.

    1. Detach the backrest cover straps.
    2. Route the backrest cover straps through the backrest blower motor snorkel.
    3. Position the backrest cover upward.

  4. Release the J-clip.

  5. NOTE: To install, gradually alternate the left and right seat backrest cover zippers to prevent damage to the seat backrest cover.

    1. Unzip the seat backrest cover.
    2. Lift the seat backrest cover.

    • Remove the 2 side airbag nuts.

      Torque: 58 lb.in (6.5 Nm)

    • Detach the side airbag from the backrest frame.

    • Slide the locking wedge out, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the side airbag.
