Front Seat Backrest Cover: Removal

WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side airbags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side airbag deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTE: Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.

Remove the front seat. Refer to: Front Seat .
NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

Remove the head restraint guide sleeves. Refer to: Front Head Restraint Guide Sleeve .
NOTE: Cloth seat shown, other seats similar.

Detach the electrical connector pin-type retainer(s).

Detach the backrest cover straps and position the backrest cover upward.

Remove the backrest cover support.

Detach the backrest cover J-clip.

Position the backrest cover from between the seat cushion and the backrest cushion.

NOTE: Use care when separating the seat backrest trim cover from the hook-and-loop strips or the hook-and-loop strips may be torn from the seat backrest foam pad.

Release the hook-and-loop strips and begin inverting the backrest cover.

Detach the side airbag deployment chute J-clip.

NOTE: Use care when separating the seat backrest trim cover from the hook-and-loop strips or the hook-and-loop strips may be torn from the seat backrest foam pad.

Release the hook-and-loop strips, pull the side airbag deployment chute through the backrest foam and continue inverting the backrest cover.

Detach the J-clips and continue inverting the backrest cover.
