Headliner - 5-Door: Removal

NOTE: Do not bend or crease the headliner during removal and installation. Failure to follow this will result in damage to the headliner.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to Safety Warnings in GENERAL INFORMATION (EXCEPT ELECTRIC) . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

    Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions .

  2. Remove the retainers and the RH kick panel.

  3. Position aside the weather strip, release the clips and remove the RH instrument panel side trim panel.

  4. Remove glove box retainers.

    1. Open glovebox door.
    2. Remove the glovebox retainers.

  5. Release the clips and remove the glovebox.

  6. Disconnect the headliner electrical connectors, release the retainers and position aside.

  7. On both sides, remove the A-pillar trim panel. Refer to: A-Pillar Trim Panel  .
  8. On RH side. Position the headliner wiring harness and rear washer hose aside.

    1. Disconnect the rear washer hose. Refer to: Washer Hose Coupling .
    2. Disconnect the headliner wiring harness electrical connector.
    3. Release the headliner wiring harness from the clips.

  9. If equipped. Remove the dome lamp and disconnect the electrical connectors.

  10. If equipped, remove the overhead console. Refer to: Overhead Console .
  11. If equipped. Remove the rear view mirror covers.

  12. If equipped. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  13. NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.

    On both sides. Position aside the upper B-pillar trim panel.

    • Remove the retainer cover and the upper B-pillar retainer.

    • Position aside the weatherstrip, release the clips and position aside the upper B-pillar trim panel.

  14. On both sides, remove the D-pillar trim panel. Refer to: D-Pillar Trim Panel - 5-Door  .
  15. On both sides. Remove the retainers, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the sun visors.

  16. NOTE: Assist handle shown, garment hooks similar.

    Remove retainers and all assist handles and all garment hooks.

  17. Disconnect rear washer hose.

  18. Position aside the front door, the rear door and the liftgate weatherstrip.

  19. Remove the LH front seat. Refer to: Front Seat .
  20. Position the seats as shown.

    • Remove the RH seat head restraint.

    • Position both second row seats in the fold-flat position and front RH seat in the full reclined position.

  21. With the help of an assistant, lower the headliner.

    1. On both sides. Remove the retainers and the sun visor clips.
    2. Remove the rear pin-type retainers.
    3. If equipped. Disconnect the roof opening panel motor electrical connector.
