Pinpoint Test W : The Low Fuel Indicator Is Never Or Always On: Notes

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

See Low Fuel Indicator. REFER to: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) - SYSTEM OPERATION AND COMPONENT DESCRIPTION

If the fuel level status message is missing for less than 33 seconds, the IPC defaults the low fuel indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last known good message received.

If the fuel level status message is missing for 33 seconds or longer, the IPC sets DTC U0140:00 in continuous memory, defaults fuel gauge to empty (E) and the low fuel indicator on.

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Prechecks 

If the low fuel indicator is never on, verify the fuel level is less than before beginning diagnostics. If the low fuel indicator is always on, verify the fuel level is above before beginning diagnostics.
