Pinpoint Test K : The Blower Motor Is Inoperative: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Ford Focus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Refer to Manual Climate Control System for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The blower request circuit is hardwired between the BCM and the HVAC control module. Voltage is supplied to the blower motor relay from the BJB. When the blower motor relay coil receives a ground from the BCM, the relay coil is energized and voltage is delivered to the blower motor. Ground for the blower motor is provided by the HVAC control module.

HVAC DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B10AF:11 Blower Fan Relay: Circuit Short To Ground This DTC sets in continuous memory and on demand when the HVAC control module senses a short to ground. The blower is always off when the blower request circuit is shorted to ground.
B10AF:15 Blower Fan Relay: Circuit Short to Battery or Open This DTC sets in continuous memory and on demand when the HVAC control module senses erratic voltage on the blower request circuit. The blower is always off when the circuit is shorted to battery or when the circuit is open.

BCM DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B10AF:12 Blower Fan Relay: Circuit Short To Battery This DTC sets in continuous memory when the BCM senses voltage on the relay coil ground circuit when the module is grounding the circuit.
B10AF:14 Blower Fan Relay: Circuit Short to Ground or Open This DTC sets in continuous memory and on demand when the BCM senses no voltage on the relay coil ground circuit when the module is grounding the circuit. The blower is always on when the circuit is shorted to ground, always off when the circuit is open.
B10B9:23 Blower Control: Signal Stuck Low This on demand DTC sets when the BCM senses a path to ground on the blower request circuit when a self-test is being performed.
