Selector Lever Cable: Removal

- Prior to replacing the selector lever cable for a no start or a high shift effort concern, verify the selector lever cable-to-bracket clips are fully seated at the transmission and selector lever assembly. An unseated cable can cause selector lever cable binding and prevent the manual shaft from completely returning to the P position.
Torque
: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the transmission manual lever.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the transmission.
- Release the locking tab on the selector lever cable clip.
- Remove the selector lever cable from the selector lever cable bracket.
- Remove the floor console. Refer to: Floor Console - Vehicles With: Center Armrest . Refer to: Floor Console - Vehicles Without: Center Armrest .
- Remove the bolts and the instrument panel bracket.
- Position the carpet aside and remove the selector lever cable grommet nuts
- Remove the selector lever cable clip bolt.

NOTE: Do not pull or pry on the selector lever cable or the selector lever cable end may be damaged. Use a screwdriver and turn the screwdriver as shown to pry the cable end off the post as close to the post as possible.
Using a screwdriver, pry the selector lever cable end from the selector lever and disconnect the selector lever cable clip from the selector lever assembly.
- With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the fasteners and the engine undershield.
- Remove the fasteners and position the exhaust heat shield toward the rear of the vehicle.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the retainer.
- Remove the selector lever cable.
