Pinpoint Test E : P2531, P2532: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Ford Focus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Refer to Electronic Engine Controls - 2.0L Duratec for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
When the ignition is in the ON or START mode, the BCM supplies ground for the coil (control) side of the ignition relay. The energized ignition relay supplies battery voltage to the BJB, the PCM and multiple components through the ignition relay output circuit. The BCM sends ignition mode information via the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN).
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
| DTC | Description | Fault Trigger Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| P2531 | Ignition Switch Run Position Circuit Low | This DTC is set when the PCM detects no voltage on the ignition relay output circuit when the BCM indicates ignition is in the ON or START mode. |
| P2532 | Ignition Switch Run Position Circuit High | This DTC is set when the PCM detects voltage on the ignition relay output circuit when the BCM indicates ignition is in the OFF mode. |
Possible Sources
- Ignition switch (without Push button start)
- Ignition switch - push button start (with Push button start)
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- PCM
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Verify the BCM fuse 78 (5A).
- Verify the BJB fuse 38 (15A).
