Parking Brake Cable - Vehicles With: Rear Drum Brakes: Removal

Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- Apply the parking brake and remove the parking brake control lever boot.
- Release the parking brake and loosen the parking brake cable adjustment nut.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove and discard the nuts, detach the exhaust pipe and discard the gasket.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Remove the nuts and position the exhaust heat shield forward.
Torque
: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Remove the bolts and the underbody shield on both sides.
- Remove the nuts and lower the exhaust heat shield.
Torque
: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Detach the front parking brake cable from the equalizer detach the rear parking brake cables from the body.
- Using a screwdriver, bend the parking brake cable union tab on both sides.
- Separate the rear parking brake cables on both sides.

- Remove the bolts and detach the parking brake cable brackets from the body on both sides.
Torque
: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Remove the bolts and detach the parking brake cable brackets from the suspension arms on both sides.
Torque
: 17 lb.in (1.9 Nm)
- Detach the remaining parking brake cable brackets and remove the parking brake cables.
- Remove the bolts and detach the parking brake cable brackets from the body on both sides.
