Front Brake Pads: Removal

NOTE: Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

NOTE: 10.94in (278mm) brakes shown, 12.60in (320mm) brakes similar.

Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
Remove the brake caliper spring.

NOTE: Do not pry in the caliper sight hole to retract the pistons as this can damage the pistons and boots.

NOTE: Do not allow the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.
1. Remove the caps.
2. Remove the brake caliper guide pins.
  Torque
  
  : 21 lb.ft (28 Nm)
3. Position the brake caliper aside.

NOTE: Protect the caliper pistons and boots when pushing the caliper piston into the caliper piston bores or damage to components may occur.

General equipment: C-Clamp Retract the brake caliper pistons into the brake caliper bore.
NOTE: For 12.60in (320mm) brakes, clean all residual pad adhesive from the brake caliper piston and the finger area of the brake caliper or brake noise may occur.
