Rear Halfshaft: Removal

  1. Remove the brake disc. Refer to: Brake Disc - RS .
  2. Remove the retainer and position aside the wiring harness.

  3. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor. Refer to: Rear Wheel Speed Sensor - RS .
  4. Remove and discard wheel hub mounting bolt.

  5. Remove and discard the stabilizer bar mounting nut and disconnect the stabilizer bar.

  6. Remove and discard the lower shock absorber bolt and disconnect the lower shock absorber.

  7. Remove the spring. Refer to: Spring .
  8. Remove the bolts and the underbody shield.

  9. Support the rear suspension. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

  10. Remove the bolt and position aside the parking brake cable.

  11. Remove the retainers and position aside the wiring harness.

  12. Remove the retainer, disconnect electrical connector and keep aside the wiring harness.

    • Remove and discard the bolt and position the front lower arm aside.

    • Remove and discard the bolt and position brake hoses and bracket aside.

  14. Remove and discard the bolt and remove the trailing arm and knuckle assembly as a unit.

  15. Install Special Service Tool: 205-832 Remover, Halfshaft.

  16. NOTE: Make sure that special tool can move freely.

    Install Special Service Tool: 100-001 (T50T-100-A) Slide Hammer.

  17. NOTE: Take extra care when handling the component.

  18. Remove Special Service Tool: 100-001 (T50T-100-A) Slide Hammer., 205-832 Remover, Halfshaft.
  19. NOTE: Take extra care when handling the component.
    NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45°.
    NOTE: The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 18°.

    Remove the rear halfshaft.

    1. Remove and discard the inner halfshaft circlip.
    2. Inspect the inner halfshaft seal surface and splines for damage.
