Front Halfshaft RH - 2.3L EcoBoost (257kW/350PS) - MI4: Installation

Inspect the inboard end of the halfshaft.

Inspect the outboard end of the halfshafts.

Install a new intermediate shaft seal. Refer to: Intermediate Shaft Seal .
NOTE: Do not fully install the shaft at this time.

Insert the halfshaft splines.

NOTE: Do not install the halfshaft any deeper than the centerline of the bearing with the centerline of the bracket. Over-installation of the halfshaft and pulling the halfshaft back out to align the bearing in the bracket could damage the intermediate shaft seal.

Insert the intermediate shaft until the intermediate shaft bearing is centered in the concave groove of the intermediate shaft bearing bracket.

Install the new intermediate shaft bearing strap and new intermediate shaft bearing strap nuts.
Torque

:Stage 1: Tighten lower nut to: 53 lb.in (6 Nm) Stage 2: Tighten upper nut to: 53 lb.in (6 Nm) Stage 3: Tighten lower nut to: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm) Stage 4: Tighten upper nut to: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that the strut is not moved more than necessary to prevent damage to top mount.

Position the halfshaft through the wheel bearing.

Using the special tool, seat the halfshaft in the wheel bearing mating splines. Use Special Service Tool: 204-161 (T97P-1175-A) Installer, Halfshaft.

Install the new lower ball joint pinch bolt and nut.
Torque

: 61 lb.ft (83 Nm)

Install the brake flexible hose bracket bolt.
Torque

: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

NOTE: Do not tighten the front wheel hub nut with the vehicle on the ground. The nut must be tightened to specification before the vehicle is lowered onto the wheels. Wheel bearing damage will occur if the wheel bearing is loaded with the weight of the vehicle applied.

NOTE: Install and tighten the new wheel hub nut to specification in a continuous rotation. Always install a new wheel hub nut after loosening or when not tightened to specification in a continuous rotation or damage to the components may occur.

NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.

Using an assistant to apply brake pressure, install the new wheel hub nut.

Torque

:Stage 1: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm) Stage 2: 90°

Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check - 2.3L EcoBoost (257kW/350PS) - MI4 .
If equipped, install the underbody shield.

Install the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
