Pinpoint Test B : B124D:02

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Ford Focus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The TPMS sensor radio transmissions are sent to the BCM approximately once every 60 seconds while the vehicle speed exceeds 32 km/h (20 mph).

The TPMS sensor communication to the BCM can be interrupted by RFI, which can cause intermittent issues that are not vehicle concerns. RFI is generated by items such as; electrical motors and appliance operation, cellular telephones, remote transmitters, power inverters and portable entertainment equipment. When the TPMS sensor training procedure is performed successfully, the warning indicator is extinguished and the vehicle must be driven for 18-20 minutes before the BCM sets a fault.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
BCM B124D:02 Tire Pressure Sensor: General Signal Failure At speeds greater than 32 km/h (20 mph) with no other TPMS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present, the BCM tests for TPMS sensor transmissions. If after 18 minutes the BCM has not received a transmission from 1, 2 or 3 of the TPMS sensors, a DTC is set in the BCM, the TPMS warning indicator flashes for 75 seconds and then remains illuminated.

    Possible Sources

    • TPMS sensors not installed
    • TPMS sensor not trained
    • TPMS sensor
    • BCM

    Visual Inspection and Pre-checks

    • Inspect for customer electronic devices, such as cell phone chargers or GPS units.
    • Inspect for Non-Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) wheels or run-flat tires.
    • Verify horn operation.
    • Verify spare tire is not in use.

  2. B1 ACTIVATE THE TPMS (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM) SENSORS AND CHECK FOR BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    • Activate all 4 TPMS sensors. REFER to: the appropriate Service Information.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the BCM self-test.

    Is DTC B1182:00 present?

Yes  GO to Pinpoint Test A
No  If DTC B124D:02 is present, GO to  B2 For all other BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), GO to BCM DTC Chart . If there are no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present, the system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by RFI. REFER to: Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) - System Operation and Component Description .
  3. B2 CARRY OUT THE TPMS (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM) SENSOR TRAINING PROCEDURE

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view and record the following BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs):

      • Left Front Tire Transmitter Identifier (TPM_S_ID_LF)
      • Right Front Tire Transmitter Identifier (TPM_S_ID_RF)
      • Left Rear Tire Transmitter Identifier (TPM_S_ID_LRO)
      • Right Rear Tire Transmitter Identifier (TPM_S_ID_RRO)

Did all of the TPMS sensors train successfully and did the horn sound when each TPMS sensor transmitted to the BCM?

Yes  Using the diagnostic scan tool, LOCATE the updated TPMS sensor identifiers trained to the BCM. COMPARE these values to those recorded prior to the TPMS sensor training procedure. Disregarding sensor position, any sensor identifiers that do not match those retrieved from the module were changed, but not retrained. The sensors are now trained to the vehicle, diagnosis is complete. DOCUMENT all TPMS sensor identifiers on the applicable warranty claim.
    No  GO to  B3
  4. B3 ATTEMPT TO TRAIN THE TPMS (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM) SENSORS AGAIN

Did any of the TPMS sensors train successfully and did the horn sound when each TPMS sensor transmitted to the BCM?

Yes  REPLACE any TPMS sensor that did not train. REFER to: Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor .
    No  GO to  B4
  5. B4 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (replace connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - replace terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - replace pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  The sensors may not be present. DISMOUNT the tires and VERIFY the sensors are present and mounted to the wheels. REFER to: Wheel And Tire . If a sensor is missing, INSTALL a new sensor. REFER to: Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor . If all the sensors are present, CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB, GSB, SSM, or FSA. If a service article exists for the concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, Refer to BCM Guided Routine Testing .
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. CLEAR the DTC.
