Oil pump: Removal

- With the vehicle in neutral, position it on a hoist. refer to: Jacking and lifting - overview .
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. refer to: Battery disconnect and connect .
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Cowl panel .
- Refer to: engine front cover .
- Install special service tool: 303-F072 support bar, engine.
- Remove the jack and wooden block. Use the general equipment: trolley jack use the general equipment: wooden block
- Disconnect the bypass hose, the electrical connector and the wire retainers. Use the general equipment: hose clamp remover/installer
- Loosen the clamp and position CAC inlet tube off the turbocharger.
- Loosen the clamp, remove the nuts and the CAC inlet tube.
- If equipped, remove the nuts and position the cabin heater coolant pump aside.
- Remove the transmission-to-engine bolt and position the a/c tube bracket aside.
- Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors and the wiring harness retainer.

- Remove the nut and stud.
- Remove the bolts and position the a/c compressor aside and support.

- Remove the oil pan drain bolt and drain the engine oil. Use the general equipment: oil drain equipment
- Install the oil pan drain bolt.
Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 nm)
- Remove and discard the engine oil filter. Use the general equipment: oil drain equipment
- Remove the oil pan-to-transmission bolt.
- Remove the transmission-to-oil pan bolts and position the ground cable aside.
- Remove the bolts and the oil pan.
- Remove the bolts and the oil screen and pickup tube.
- Remove the oil screen and pickup tube o-ring seal and discard.

WARNING: Take extra care when handling the compressed spring.
Release the tension on the tensioner spring.
- Remove the shoulder bolts, tensioner and position the chain aside.

- Remove the bolt and oil pump sprocket.
- Remove the bolts and the oil pump.
- Clean the mating surfaces of the oil pump.

NOTE: Do not use wire brushes, power abrasive discs or 3M™ Roloc ® bristle disk (2-in white, part number 07528) to clean the sealing surfaces of the engine block. These tools cause scratches and gouges that make leak paths. They also cause contamination that causes premature engine failure. Remove all traces of the gasket.
- Make sure that the mating faces of the oil pan are clean and free of foreign material. refer to: RTV sealing surface cleaning and preparation

Material: motorcraft ® metal brake parts cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B
Material: motorcraft ® metal surface prep wipes / ZC-31-B
- Thoroughly wash the oil pan to remove any foreign material, including any abrasive particles created during the cleaning process.
- Make sure that the mating faces of the oil pan are clean and free of foreign material. refer to: RTV sealing surface cleaning and preparation
