Muffler and Tailpipe: Removal

NOTE:
The production muffler and tailpipe assembly is one-piece construction. The service muffler and tailpipe is one-piece construction also. It is necessary to cut the production exhaust system to enable the service section(s) to be fitted. Before the service muffler and tailpipe can be installed, it will need to be cut also. Before cutting any part of the production or service muffler and tailpipe, check that the position of the cut is correct in comparison to the service sections to be installed.
NOTE:
Service section part(s) will use a service section clamp for assembly.
NOTE:
Clean all exhaust connections before reassembly.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Cut the muffler and tailpipe where shown. Use the General Equipment: Air Body Saw

NOTE: The new muffler assembly comes with new exhaust isolator hanger brackets. If replacing the muffler assembly, remove the 4 exhaust isolator hanger bolts and install the new exhaust isolator hanger brackets with the new muffler assembly. If not replacing the muffler assembly, the muffler assembly can be removed from the isolators.
Remove the exhaust isolator bracket bolts and remove the muffler.
- Remove and discard the muffler and tailpipe flange nuts. Position back the muffler and tailpipe.
- Remove and discard the muffler and tailpipe flange gasket.
- Detach the exhaust isolator. Remove the front pipe.
