Instrument Panel: Removal

Recover the refrigerant. Refer to: Climate Control System - General Information .
NOTE: Make sure all openings are sealed.

Remove the evaporator pipe nut, position the flange and pipe aside.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
  Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

Clamp and disconnect the heater hoses.

Remove both front doors. Refer to: Front Door .
Remove the LH finish panel.

Remove the LH sill plate. Disconnect the electrical connector
- Disconnect the electrical connector.

Remove the hood release lever and the LH lower cowl trim panel.

Remove the LH instrument panel lower insulator panel.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
  Torque: 23 lb.in (2.6 Nm)

Remove the foot rest pad.

Position the carpet rearward.

NOTE: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring may result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, remove and recenter the clockspring.

Remove and discard the steering shaft pinch bolt and position aside the lower steering column shaft.

Torque: 21 lb.ft (28 Nm)

Remove the 2 bolts, release the wiring harness retainer and position aside the LH side harness.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering .
Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors and disengage the 3 harness retainers.

Remove the HVAC drain tube.

Remove the defrost vent trim panel. Refer to: Defrost Vent Trim Panel .
Disconnect the electrical connector at the drivers side A-pillar.
- Detach the harness retainer.

Remove 2 the upper instrument panel bolts.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

1. Remove the 2 bolts.
  Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
2. Remove the screw.
  Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
3. Remove the 2 bolts and the instrument panel center brace.
  Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

NOTE: Remove the bolts from one side completely and support the instrument panel before removing the bolts from the opposite side.
1. Remove the 2 LH instrument panel support bolts.
  Torque: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)
2. Remove the A-pillar to in-vehicle cross beam support bolt.
  Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.

NOTE: Make sure not to damage the instrument panel when removing the instrument panel from the vehicle.

NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.

Rotate the instrument panel face down and remove through the LH front door opening.
