Thermostatic Expansion Valve: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Recover the refrigerant. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging .
NOTE: Do not pull the engine appearance cover forward or sideways to remove. Failure to press straight upward on the underside of the cover at the attachment points may result in damage to the cover or engine components.
1. Place your hand under the engine appearance cover at each grommet location and push straight up to release each grommet from the studs.
2. After all of the grommets have been released from the studs, remove the appearance cover from the engine.

NOTE: 2.0L EcoBoost shown, 2.3L EcoBoost similar.
1. Loosen the clamps.
  Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)
2. Remove the TC air inlet pipe retaining bolt and the engine appearance cover mounting stud.
  Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
3. Disconnect the fuel evaporative tube quick release coupling and remove the TC air inlet pipe. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling 2.0L EcoBoost (177kW/240PS) - MI4 . Refer to: Quick Release Coupling 2.3L EcoBoost (201kW/273PS) .

Remove the evaporator inlet and outlet manifold nut, disconnect the fitting.
Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

Remove the evaporator inlet and outlet manifold bracket nut.
Torque: 27 lb.in (3 Nm)

Remove the bolts and the thermostatic expansion valve.
Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)
