Fuel Tank: Removal

LHD AWD/LHD FWD

2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
3. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
4. NOTE: Make certain the fuel tank is completely empty before removing the fuel tank.

   Drain the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .

5. If equipped, remove the retainers and the underbody shields.

6. NOTE: Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.

   Remove and discard the nuts, position aside the exhaust.

   Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

7. Remove and discard the gasket.

8. Detach the exhaust isolator.

9. Detach the exhaust from the isolators and position aside.

10. If equipped, remove the bolts and the bracket.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    LHD AWD 

11. If equipped. Remove the bolts from the center bearing support.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

12. Remove and discard the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) pinion flange bolt and washer assemblies.

    Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

13. 1. Index mark the rear driveshaft flange.
    2. Separate the driveshaft CV flange from the RDU flange using a flat-blade.
    3. NOTE: Do not remove driveshaft from the pinion flange by pulling on the driveshaft tube. Damage to the CV joint can result.

       Position the rear of the driveshaft aside and support with mechanics wire.

14. Remove the nuts and position the heat shield aside.

15. Remove the retainers and position the RH splash shield aside.

    NOTE: It may be necessary to position the exhaust downward to allow enough clearance for the shield to be removed.
16. With the help of an assistant, remove the nuts and the heat shield.

17. Disconnect the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

18. Disconnect the quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

19. Disconnect the electrical connector and the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

20. • Support the fuel tank and remove and discard the bolts.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    • Remove the straps.
    • Partially lower the fuel tank.

21. With the help of an assistant, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the fuel tank.
