Front Door Latch: Removal

NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.

Remove the front door trim panel. REFER to: Interior Trim And Ornamentation .
If equipped. Remove the door lock cylinder. REFER to: Door Lock Cylinder .
Remove the exterior front door handle. REFER to: Exterior Front Door Handle .
Remove the front door watershield.

Install the front door window control switch and lower the front door window glass to three-quarter down position.
1. Connect the front door window control switch.
2. Lower the front door window glass to access the clips.

Release the retaining clips from the front door window glass.
1. Using a non-marring trim tool from the outboard side of the front door window glass, pry the tang on each clip back releasing the front door window glass. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover
2. Move the front door window glass up to disengage from the clips completely.
3. Lower the front door window glass completely to bottom of the door.

Position the front window control switch and raise the front window glass to full up position.
1. Disconnect the front door window control switch.
2. Raise the front door window glass to full up position.

Apply tape to the front door window glass to window door frame. Use the General Equipment: Adhesive Tape

Position the front door window regulator aside.
1. Remove the nuts.
  Torque: 93 lb.in (10.5 Nm)
2. NOTE: Rotate the passenger side 90 degrees counterclockwise.
  
  Rotate the front door window regulator 90 degrees clockwise and position the front door window regulator aside.

NOTE: Make sure the exterior front door reinforcement is in the full aft position before tightening the screw.

Remove the exterior door handle reinforcement screw and gaskets.

Remove the front door latch bolts.
1. Remove the upper front door latch bolt.
  Torque: 17 lb.in (1.9 Nm)
2. Remove the front door latch bolts.
  Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

NOTE: The front door is shown transparent for clarity.

Remove the front door latch.
1. Disconnect the wiring harness routing clip.
2. Route the interior door handle cable and grommet through the door.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector(s).
4. Remove the front door latch assembly.

NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

Remove the interior front door handle cable from the front door latch.

Remove the front door latch.
- Remove the retainers from the front door latch.
- Disconnect the exterior door handle reinforcement cable from the front door latch.
- Disconnect the lock rod from the front door latch.
