Liftgate Latch Release: Notes

The liftgate latch can be released using:

the exterior liftgate release switch.
a programmed RKE transmitter.
a programmed passive key.

The BCM and the RGTM send a voltage signal to the exterior liftgate release switch. When a liftgate release switch is pressed, the voltage signal is routed to ground, indicating a request to release the liftgate latch.

When using a programmed RKE transmitter, press the liftgate release button twice within 3 seconds to release the liftgate latch. If the vehicle speed is 5 km/h (3.1 mph) or less, the BCM communicates to the RGTM to release the liftgate latch.

The liftgate latch can also be released using a programmed passive key. Refer to Liftgate Passive Entry for information on the passive entry feature.

When the RGTM receives a valid request to release the liftgate latch from the exterior liftgate release switch or BCM, the RGTM carries out the following:

The RGTM checks the gear selector lever position from the messages received over the CAN.
The RGTM supplies power to the unlatch/cinching motor until the sector gear switches indicate end of travel, releasing the power liftgate latch.
The RGTM monitors for correct latch release states.
When the RGTM detects the latch is fully released, it supplies power to the unlatch/cinching motor while monitoring the sector gear switches to return the sector gear to the neutral position.
