The IPC utilizes a 10.1" color Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display for all cluster information. This is a complete virtual IPC without any analog gauges or LED-type indicators. All indicators and gauges appear similar to standard analog gauges and LED Instrument Panel Clusters (IPCs). The message center and adaptive cruise control information is displayed in overlays over the center of the tachometer and speedometer respectively, covering the center portion of the gauge needle images. The IPC has a feature called the quiet mode, where all overlays are turned off and basic cluster images return to normal functionality.

To alert the driver of vehicle conditions, the IPC uses:

Informational indicators inform the driver of conditions that exist in the vehicle. Warning indicators provide information to the driver of conditions that could potentially cause personal injury or alter vehicle performance.

RTT indicators illuminate in message center popup displays and the rotating RTT indicator display area, using the same iconic representation as typical LED indicators. The RTT indicators display in the order the request was received by the IPC.

Network Messaged Inputs

Module messaging has increased over time and is the standard for sending and receiving information required to operate the IPC. The majority of the inputs required to operate the IPC are received over the CAN with the remaining few inputs hardwired to the IPC.

Hardwired Inputs

The IPC requires hardwired inputs from components that are not on the CAN. These components are required for specific IPC functions.

The hardwired inputs are provided by the following components:
