Pinpoint Test V: The Mil Is Never Or Always On

  1. V1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
    • Are any DTCs recorded? 
    1. Yes  : For DTC U0100:00, GO to PINPOINT TEST AV .

      For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Chart - IPC .

    2. No  : GO to V2.
  2. V2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the KOEO self-test.
    • Are any DTCs recorded? 
    1. Yes  : DIAGNOSE all PCM DTCs first. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS or ENGINE CONTROLS - SYMPTOM CHARTS (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID) (SECTION 3) .
    2. No  : GO to V3.
  3. V3 CARRY OUT THE IPC WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL 
    • Using a scan tool, view the IPC PIDs.
    • Select the IPC MIL (MIL_LAMP) PID.
    • Command the MIL on and off while observing the MIL.
    • Does the MIL illuminate when selected on and turn off when selected off? 
    1. Yes  : If the MIL is never on, the system is operating correctly.

      If the MIL is always on, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS .

    2. No  : INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
