Component Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Ford Focus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Parking Aid Sensors

The parking aid sensors are wide beam ultrasonic sensors. The sensors continuously send out ultrasonic signals to detect objects and communicate the information back to the PAM

Only objects which reflect enough sound waves are detected by the sensors. This varies due to the shape, surface properties, and size of objects being detected. Incorrect sensor alignment, dirt covered sensors, and heavy rain or snow can cause objects not to be recognized.

PAM

The Parking Aid Module (PAM) calculates and reports via audible output the distance between the rear of the vehicle and an object. The PAM is capable of setting and storing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for the parking aid when a fault is detected. The parking aid system is disabled whenever the PAM detects a fault. Faults detected by other network modules associated with the parking aid system can also result in the parking aid being disabled.

BCM

The BCM serves as a gateway module between the other modules on the HS-CAN and the MS-CAN.

IPC

The IPC serves as a gateway module between the BCM and the ACM sending the warning tone to the speakers to alert the driver of detected objects.
