Condition Possible Sources Action
  • The message center display is blank
  • Message center display setting

  • PRESS the INFO button on the message center to make sure the display is not set to a blank display.
    • If the message center display turns on, the system is operating normally at this time. The message center display was set to a blank display.
    • If the message center display is still blank, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • Not all segments of the display illuminate

  • The message center is not operating correctly

  • If equipped with a base cluster, VERIFY that the IC is operating correctly.
    • If the IC is not operating correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test A .

  • The compass is inoperative

    • If the speedometer, the fuel gauge or the odometer do not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test F  (speedometer), GO to Pinpoint Test B  (fuel gauge) or GO to Pinpoint Test H  (odometer).
    • If the speedometer, the fuel gauge and the odometer operate correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The PARKING AID ON/OFF message is inoperative

  • The XXX MILES/KM TO E FUEL LOW message is inoperative
  • Fuel gauge
  • IC
    NOTE: The miles to empty warning only displays at 120 km (75 miles) (with a MyKey® programmed key) or 80 km (50 miles) (with an administrator key) to empty which is equal to approximately 3-5 gallons of fuel remaining. This is a learned strategy based on fuel economy and changes from its default setting.
  • VERIFY that the fuel gauge operates correctly and that the DTE is under 120 km (75 miles) (with a MyKey® programmed key) or 80 km (50 miles) (with an administrator key).
    • If the fuel gauge does not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test B .
    • If the fuel gauge operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM, CHECK PARK BRAKE, PARK BRAKE ENGAGED, or BRAKE FLUID LEVEL LOW warning is inoperative
  • Parking brake switch
  • Brake fluid level switch

  • OBSERVE the brake warning indicator.
    • If the brake warning indicator does not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test O .
    • If the brake warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The WASHER FLUID LEVEL LOW message is inoperative
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Washer fluid level switch

  • OBSERVE the low washer fluid level message center indicator.
    • If the low washer fluid level message center indicator does not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test AB .
    • If the low washer fluid level message center indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The ENGINE OIL/CHANGE SOON or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message is inoperative
  • IC
  • The CHECK AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM or AIR SUSPENSION OFF message is inoperative (if equipped)

  • OPEN and CLOSE each door, liftgate and liftgate glass and VERIFY that the interior lamps operate correctly.
    • If the interior lamps do not operate correctly from each door, liftgate and liftgate glass, REFER to INTERIOR LIGHTING .

  • VERIFY that the door ajar message center indicator operates correctly.
    • If the door ajar message center indicator does not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test AE .
    • If the door ajar message center indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM warning is inoperative
  • IC
  • VERIFY that the charge message center indicator operates correctly.
    • If the charge message center indicator does not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test W .
    • If the charge message center indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT, LOW TIRE PRESSURE or TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR FAULT warning is inoperative (if equipped)
  • IC
  • VERIFY that the TPMS warning indicator operates correctly.
    • If the TPMS warning indicator does not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test M .
    • If the TPMS warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The 4X4 SHIFT IN PROGRESS message is inoperative

  • The TRAILER SWAY REDUCE SPEED message is inoperative/always on

  • GO to Pinpoint Test R  to diagnose the traction assist warning indicator.

    NOTE: MyKey® may not be compatible with non-Ford approved remote start systems.

SYMPTOM CHART - WARNING CHIMES

  • The key-in-ignition warning chime is inoperative
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)
 
  • SJB
 
  • The turn signal left on warning chime is inoperative
  • IC
  • VERIFY the turn signal indicators and speedometer operate correctly.
    • If the turn signal indicators or speedometer do not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test N  (LH/RH turn indicators) or GO to Pinpoint Test F  (speedometer).
    • If the turn signal indicators and speedometer operate correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The door ajar warning chime is inoperative
  • IC
  • VERIFY the door ajar message center indicator operates correctly.
    • If the door ajar message center indicator does not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test AE .
    • If the door ajar message center indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The turn signal tick-tock chime is inoperative
  • IC
  • VERIFY the turn signal indicators operate correctly.
    • If the turn signal indicators do not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test N .
    • If the turn signal indicators operate correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The headlamps on warning chime is inoperative
  • Door ajar indication concern
  • Headlamp concern

  • The message center warning chime is inoperative
  • IC
  • VERIFY the message center operates correctly.
    • If the message center does not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test AF .
    • If the message center operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The parking brake on warning chime is inoperative
  • IC
  • VERIFY the brake warning indicator and the speedometer operate correctly.
    • If the brake warning indicator and the speedometer do not operate correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test O  (brake warning indicator) or GO to Pinpoint Test F  (speedometer).
    • If the brake warning indicator and the speedometer operate correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC)  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The perimeter alarm warning chime is inoperative
  • Perimeter alarm concern
  • IC
  • VERIFY the key-in-ignition warning chime functions correctly.
   
  • If the key-in-ignition warning chime does not function correctly, GO to Pinpoint Test AO .
  • If the key-in-ignition warning chimes functions correctly, REFER to ANTI-THEFT - PERIMETER to diagnose the perimeter alarm.
  • The safety belt warning chime is inoperative
  • Safety belt warning indication concern
