Exhaust Manifold: Installation

  1. Install the 7 new cylinder head studs.
    • Tighten to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).
  2. NOTE: Failure to tighten the catalytic converter nuts to specification before installing the converter bracket bolts will cause the converter to develop an exhaust leak.
    NOTE: Failure to tighten the catalytic converter nuts to specification a second time will cause the converter to develop an exhaust leak.
  3. Install a new exhaust manifold gasket, the exhaust manifold and 7 new nuts in the sequence shown in illustration in 2 stages:
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  4. If equipped, attach the block heater wire harness retainer to the exhaust manifold stud.
  5. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield and the 4 bolts.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  6. Connect the HO2S electrical connector.
  7. Install the exhaust flexible pipe. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .
