Pinpoint Test F: The Tachometer Is Inoperative

  1. F1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST 
    • Check the recorded PCM DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
    • Are any DTCs recorded? 
      • Yes  : REFER to the INTRODUCTION article.
      • No  : GO to F2.
  2. F2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST 
    • Check for recorded IPC DTCs from the self-test.
    • Are any DTCs recorded? 
      • Yes  : For DTC U0100:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AQ .

        For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts .

      • No  : For the base IPC, GO to  F4.

        For the optional IPC, GO to F3.

  3. F3 CHECK THE DISPLAY MODE MENU 
    • In the display mode menu, press the message center (LH steering wheel) switch to the right to display the tachometer.
    • Does the tachometer display? 
      • Yes  : The tachometer is operating correctly at this time. The display mode was set to the tachometer off display.
      • No  : GO to F4.
  4. F4 CARRY OUT THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC DataLogger.
    • Select the IPC tachometer (TACH_IND) active command. Command the tachometer on and off while monitoring the tachometer.
    • Does the tachometer begin at 0 rpm, increase to 6, 000 rpm (optional IPC bar graph display) or 7, 000 rpm (base IPC or IPC analog gauge display) then return to 0 rpm?
