Pinpoint Test AF: The Shift To Park Message Is Inoperative/Always On

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  1. AF1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION 
    • Close all doors, hood and liftgate.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Open the driver door while monitoring the message center displays.
    • Does the message center display DRIVER DOOR AJAR? 
    1. Yes  : GO to AF2.
    2. No  : GO to PINPOINT TEST X .
  2. AF2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST 
    • Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC self-test.
    • Is DTC U0214:00 recorded? 
    1. Yes  : GO to PINPOINT TEST AZ .
    2. No  : If the SHIFT TO PARK message is always on, GO to AF3.

      If the SHIFT TO PARK message in inoperative, GO to  AF5.

  3. AF3 CHECK THE PARK DETECT INPUT TO THE RFA MODULE 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Selector Lever C3245.
    • Monitor the SHIFT TO PARK message in the message center.
    • Does the SHIFT TO PARK message turn off? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new selector lever. REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to AF4.
  4. AF4 CHECK THE PARK INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153D.
    • Measure the resistance between the RFA module C2153D-20, circuit CDC41 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  AF7.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit CDC41 (WH/BN) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. AF5 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Selector Lever C3245.
    • Connect a fused jumper wire between the selector lever C3245-2, circuit CDC41 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.

    • Ignition ON.
    • Monitor the SHIFT TO PARK message in the message center.
    • Does the SHIFT TO PARK message turn on? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new selector lever. REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : LEAVE the jumper wire connected. GO to AF6.
  6. AF6 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153D.
    • Measure the resistance between the RFA module C2153D-20, circuit CDC41 (WH/BN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to AF7.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit CDC41 (WH/BN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. AF7 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the RFA module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the RFA module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
