Symptom Table - Warning Chimes

SYMPTOM TABLE - WARNING CHIMES

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • All the chimes are inoperative
  • Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
  • VERIFY the IPC gauges and indicators are functioning correctly.

  • If the IPC gauges are functioning correctly, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • If the IPC gauges and indicators do not function correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
  • The chime sounds when the driver door is ajar (no key in ignition and headlamps off)
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch) (without Intelligent Access (IA))
  • Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module (with IA)
  • Smart Junction Box (SJB)
  • The key-in-ignition warning chime is inoperative
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch) (without IA)
  • RFA module (with IA)
  • SJB
  • IPC
  • The headlamps on warning chime is inoperative
  • Door ajar indication
  • SJB
  • IPC
  • The turn/hazard on warning chime is inoperative
  • RH/LH turn indicator
  • IPC
  • VERIFY that the RH/LH turn indicators operate correctly.

  • If the RH/LH turn indicators do not operate correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST U .
  • If the RH/LH turn indicators operate correctly, INSTALL a new IPC. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The turn signal on warning chime is inoperative
  • Odometer concern
  • IPC
  • The door ajar warning chime is inoperative
  • Door ajar warning indication concern
  • OBSERVE the door ajar message center warning indicator.

  • If the door ajar message center warning indicator does not operate correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST T .
  • If the door ajar message center warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The safety belt warning chime does not operate correctly
  • Safety belt warning indication concern
  • IPC
  • The Belt-Minder® feature does not operate correctly
  • Belt-Minder® deactivated
  • Safety belt warning indication concern
  • Speedometer concern
  • Restraints Control Module (RCM)
  • IPC
  • The parking brake warning chime is inoperative
  • Brake warning indication concern
  • Speedometer concern
  • SJB
  • IPC
  • The air bag secondary warning chime is inoperative/has activated
  • IPC
  • RETRIEVE the recorded DTCs from the IPC self-test.
    • If the IPC DTC P1534:01 is not present, the system is operating correctly. The air bag secondary warning chime sounds only when a fault in the air bag warning indicator is present and DTC P1534:01 is recorded.
    • If the IPC DTC P1534:01 is present, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The message center warning chime is inoperative
  • IPC
  • DISCONNECT the brake fluid level switch and VERIFY that the message center warning chime sounds when the message center displays the CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM message.

  • If the message center warning chime sounds when the CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM message appears, the system is operating correctly at this time. The message center warning chime only sounds when the message center displays a new warning message.
  • If the message center warning chime does not sound when the CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM message appears, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The adaptive cruise control warning chime is inoperative
  • Adaptive cruise control indication concern
  • Speedometer concern
  • IPC
  • The memory feedback warning chime is inoperative
  • Driver Seat Module (DSM)
  • IPC
  • The perimeter alarm warning chime is inoperative
  • Perimeter system concern
  • IPC
  • VERIFY the perimeter alarm is operating correctly by opening the driver door with the key while the perimeter alarm is armed.

  • The active park assist warning chime is inoperative
  • Parking Aid Module (PAM)
  • IPC
  • VERIFY the key-in-ignition warning chime is operative by opening the door with the ignition OFF and the key in the ignition (vehicles without IA) or by leaving the IA ignition in the ACC position with the door open.

  • If the chime does not sound, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • If there are active park assist messages displayed in the message center and no active park assist chime is present when required, REFER to PARKING AID SYSTEM - ACTIVE PARK ASSIST article to diagnose the active park assist system.
