SYMPTOM TABLE - INFORMATION AND MESSAGE CENTER

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • The message center is not operating correctly
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM)
  • HVAC module
  • Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
  • The message center display is blank
  • IPC
  • PRESS and RELEASE the INFO button and VERIFY that the message center display mode is turned on, then CARRY OUT the IPC self-diagnostic test to illuminate all segments of the message center display.

  • If the message center display is illuminated, the system is working correctly at this time. GO to PINPOINT TEST A 
  • The parking aid and collision avoidance (if equipped) menus are missing from the message center and the features cannot be deactivated
  • A MyKey™ programmed key is in use
  • When a MyKey programmed key is in use, the parking aid and collision avoidance menus are turned off and the features cannot be deactivated. Use an administrator key to operate these features.
  • The SERVICE ADVANCETRAC warning message is inoperative/always on
  • Traction control indication concern
  • IPC
  • The XXX% OIL LIFE CHANGE OIL SOON, OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message is inoperative
  • Odometer
  • IPC
  • VERIFY that the odometer operates correctly. Using the system check in the message center, VERIFY that the oil life is between 0% and 10% for the OIL CHANGE SOON message or at 0% for the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message.

  • If the oil life is between 0% and 10%, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • If the oil life is not between 0% and 10%, the message center is operating correctly. INFORM the customer how the message center functions and how the oil life messages are set.
  • The Distance To Empty (DTE)/average/instantaneous fuel economy is inoperative
  • IPC
  • CHECK the operation of the speedometer, the odometer, and the fuel gauge.

  • The TRUNK AJAR warning is inoperative/always on
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Luggage compartment lid ajar switch (part of the luggage compartment lid latch)
  • Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module (with Intelligent Access (IA))
  • Smart Junction Box (SJB)
  • IPC
  • The LOW FUEL LEVEL warning is inoperative
  • IPC
  • VERIFY that the odometer and fuel gauge are operating correctly and the DTE display is 80 km (50 miles) to empty or less (with an administrator key) or 75 miles (120 km) (with a MyKey™).
  • If the odometer or fuel gauge do not operate correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST H  (odometer), GO to PINPOINT TEST B  (single sender L-shaped tank) or GO to PINPOINT TEST C  (dual sender saddle-type tank).
  • If the DTE display is above 80 km (50 miles) to empty (with an administrator key), or 120 km (75 miles) (with a MyKey™), the system is operating correctly. The low fuel warning is turned on when the DTE display is 80 km (50 miles) to empty or less (with an administrator key), or 120 km (75 miles) (with a MyKey™).
  • The CHECK FUEL FILL INLET warning is inoperative/always on
  • Evaporative emission system
  • PCM
  • IPC
  • The CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM, PARK BRAKE ENGAGED or BRAKE FLUID LEVEL LOW warning is inoperative/always on
  • Brake warning indication concern
  • The CHECK PARK AID warning is always on
  • Message center concern
  • Parking aid system concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the door ajar message center warning indicator functions correctly.

  • If the door ajar message center warning indicator does not function correctly GO to PINPOINT TEST AD .
  • If the door ajar message center warning indicator functions correctly, REFER to PARKING AID SYSTEM article to diagnose the parking aid system.
  • The TRAIN RIGHT FRONT, LEFT FRONT, RIGHT REAR, LEFT REAR or SPARE TIRE message is inoperative/always on
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning indication concern
  • TPMS sensor training
    NOTE: These messages only appear during the TPMS sensor training procedure. Refer to WHEELS & TIRES article.
  • VERIFY that the TPMS warning indicator functions.
    • If the TPMS warning indicator does not operate, GO to PINPOINT TEST V .
    • If the TPMS warning indicator operates, CARRY OUT the TPMS sensor training. REFER to WHEELS & TIRES article.
  • The TIRES NOT TRAINED - REPEAT message is always on
  • TPMS sensor training
  • CARRY OUT the TPMS sensor training. REFER to WHEELS & TIRES article.
  • The TRAINING COMPLETE message is inoperative
  • TPMS sensor training incomplete
  • CARRY OUT the TPMS sensor training. REFER to WHEELS & TIRES article.
  • The TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT, LOW TIRE PRESSURE or TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR FAULT warning is inoperative/always on
  • TPMS warning indication concern
  • TPMS concern
  • VERIFY that the TPMS warning indicator operates.

  • If the TPMS warning indicator does not operate, GO to PINPOINT TEST V .
  • If the TPMS warning indicator operates, REFER to WHEELS & TIRES article.
  • The adaptive cruise control gap and speed setting display is inoperative
  • Adaptive cruise control concern
  • OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.

  • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message does not display correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST AD .
  • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message displays correctly, REFER to CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM article to diagnose an inoperative cruise control system.
  • An adaptive cruise control system warning message is inoperative/always on
  • Adaptive cruise control indication concern
  • Cruise control indication concern
  • Adaptive cruise control concern
  • CHECK the cruise control indicator and adaptive cruise control indicator operation.

  • If the cruise control indicator and adaptive cruise control indicator do not operate correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST Z  (cruise control indicator) or GO to PINPOINT TEST AA  (adaptive cruise control indicator).
  • If the cruise control indicator and adaptive cruise control indicator operate correctly, REFER to CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM article to diagnose the adaptive cruise control system.
  • The SHIFT TO PARK message is inoperative/always on (with Intelligent Access (IA) only)
  • Message center concern
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Park detect switch (part of the selector lever)
  • RFA module
  • The PRESS BRAKE TO START, ACCESSORY POWER ACTIVE or STARTING SYSTEM FAULT message is inoperative/always on (with Intelligent Access (IA) only)
  • Message center concern
  • IA concern
  • OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.

  • The NO KEY DETECTED or RESTART NOW OR KEY IS NEEDED message is inoperative/always on (with IA only)
  • Message center concern
  • IA concern
  • OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.

  • The DRIVER DOOR AJAR, PASSENGER DOOR AJAR, REAR LEFT DOOR AJAR, or REAR RIGHT DOOR AJAR message is inoperative/always on
  • Interior lighting concern
  • SJB
  • IPC
  • GO to PINPOINT TEST T  to diagnose the door ajar message center warning indicator.
  • The AWD OFF or CHECK AWD message is inoperative/always on
  • Message center concern
  • AWD concern
  • OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.

  • A forward collision warning system message is inoperative/always on
  • Message center concern
  • Forward collision warning system concern
  • OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.

  • A MyKey™ message is inoperative/always on
  • MyKey™ system concern
    NOTE: MyKey™ may not be compatible with non-Ford approved remote start systems.
  • VERIFY that a MyKey™ is used. OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.
  • POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT, SERVICE POWER STEERING or SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW message is inoperative/always on
  • Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system concern
  • Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) (part of the steering gear)
  • OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.

  • An active park assist message is inoperative/always on
  • Message center concern
  • Active park assist system concern
  • OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.

  • The REMOVE OBJECTS NEAR PASS SEAT warning is always on
  • Objects near the passenger seat or seat track
  • Occupant classification system concern
  • REMOVE any objects near the passenger seat or seat track. If the REMOVE OBJECTS NEAR PASS SEAT warning is still present, REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article to diagnose the occupant classification system.
  • The CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM message is inoperative/always on
  • Charging system concern.
  • PCM
  • IPC
  • The CHECK ADAPTIVE HEADLAMPS message is inoperative/always on
  • Message center concern
  • Exterior lighting system concern
  • OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.

  • The TO STOP ALARM START VEHICLE message is inoperative/always on
  • Message center concern
  • SJB
  • OPEN and CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the message center DRIVER DOOR AJAR message functions correctly and the vehicle operates in all ignition modes correctly.

  • The WASHER FLUID LEVEL LOW message is inoperative/always on
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Washer fluid level switch
  • IPC
