Front and Rear

For the rear parking aid system, the front and the rear sensors are activated at all times when REVERSE (R) is selected. For the front parking aid system, only the front sensors are activated when DRIVE (D) is selected and the vehicle speed is greater than 0 km/h (0 mph) and less than 13km/h (8 mph).

The front parking aid sensors detect objects approximately 70 cm (27.6 in) from the front of the vehicle, 50 cm (20 in) from the front side of the vehicle, and 16 cm (6 in) above the ground. The PAM calculates the distance to an object within the 170 degree semicircular area around the front of the vehicle. A higher pitched variable rate warning tone is generated from the front parking aid speaker. The warning tone rate of the front parking aid speaker, increases as the vehicle nears an obstacle. When an object is detected within 25 cm (10 in) of the sensors, the warning tone becomes continuous.

The rear parking aid sensors detect objects approximately 2 m (6 ft) from the rear of the vehicle, 50 cm (20 in) from the rear side of the vehicle, and 16 cm (6 in) above the ground. The PAM calculates the distance to an object within the 170 degree semicircular area around the rear of the vehicle. A lower pitched variable rate warning tone is generated from the rear parking aid speaker. The warning tone rate of the rear parking aid speaker, increases as the vehicle gets nears an obstacle. When an object is detected within 25 cm (10 in) of the sensors, the warning tone becomes continuous.

The front and rear parking aid system is enabled when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the DRIVE (D) or REVERSE (R) gear is selected. The front or rear parking aid system can be independently disabled through a control in the IPC message center. The parking aid system is disabled if a fault is detected in any of the sensors, the parking aid speaker or the PAM. This condition is indicated by the parking aid disabled warning in the message center. The PAM is on the HS-CAN and can be diagnosed with a scan tool.
