Removal and Installation

NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
  1. Remove the front seat. For additional information, refer to SEAT - FRONT  .
  2. From under the seat, separate the carpet flap toe-kick.
    1. Separate the J-clip from the cushion frame.
    2. Peel up the carpet flap toe-kick and remove the pin-type retainers from the cushion trim cover and recliner cover.

  3. NOTE: The seat track rear height adjust must be all the way up or the recliner cover post will not slide out of the seat track hole without first removing the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
    NOTE: For retainer clarity, inside of recliner cover shown in the illustration.
  4. Remove the recliner cover.
    1. Remove the scrivet.
    2. Slide the recliner cover post out of the seat track hole and remove the recliner cover.
      • At installation, return the barrel nut back to the seat before installing the cover.

  5. Separate the pin-type retainer. Separate the backrest and cushion trim cover from the pin-type retainer.

  6. From the front of the seat, disengage the wire harness retainer and disconnect the seat control switch electrical connectors.

  7. Remove the cushion side shield.
    1. Remove the scrivet at the back.
    2. Remove the screw at the front.
    3. Grab at the bottom and pull out at the side to release the 3 clip retainers.
      • At installation, return all retaining clips back to the cushion side shield before installing the shield.
    4. Slide down and separate the hook.

  8. Remove the pin-type retainers (1 shown in the illustration) and release all the J-clips. Remove the cushion trim cover and foam pad.
  9. Release the cushion trim cover from the back of the outboard recliner.

  10. NOTE: One side shown in the illustration, other side similar.

  11. Inside out the cushion trim cover and remove the 4 hog rings on both of the wires running the length of the cushion trim cover.
  12. Remove 6 hog rings (3 shown in the illustration) and the cushion trim cover.

  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
