Pinpoint Test P: The Hazard Lamps Are Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- P1 CHECK CIRCUIT 570 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Hazard Switch C2039
- Measure the resistance between the hazard switch C2039-2, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to P2.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE HAZARD SWITCH
- Measure the voltage between the hazard switch C2039-1, circuit 1689 (RD/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- P3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1689 (RD/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e
- Measure the resistance between the hazard switch C2039-1, circuit 1689 (RD/WH), harness side and the SJB C2280e-5, circuit 1689 (RD/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to P5.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P4 CHECK THE HAZARD SWITCH
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e
- Connect: Hazard Lamp Switch C2039
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280e-5, circuit 1689 (RD/WH), harness side and ground while pressing and releasing the hazard switch.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the hazard switch pressed, and greater than 10,000 ohms with the hazard switch released?
- YES : Go to P5.
- NO : INSTALL a new hazard lamp switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
