Pinpoint Test E: The Power Seat Does Not Move Horizontally/Vertically

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Mercury Mariner and 2008 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the restraint control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the key is in the ON position. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
  1. E1 CHECK THE SEAT OPERATION FORWARD AND REARWARD 
    • Operate the seat control switch in the forward and rearward directions.
    • Does the seat move forward and rearward? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E2.
    2. NO  : Go to  E11.
  2. E2 CHECK THE SEAT FRONT AND REAR HEIGHT OPERATION 
    • Operate the seat control switch front height and rear height positions upward and downward.
    • Does the seat front height operate upward and downward? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E3.
    2. NO  : Go to  E7.
  3. E3 CHECK VOLTAGE TO CIRCUIT CPS27 (BU/BN) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    • Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C367
    • Disconnect: Driver Safety Belt Buckle Pretensioner C3201
    • Disconnect: Seat Motor C353
      • WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
    • Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
    • While operating the seat control switch to the rear up position, measure the voltage between seat motor C353-2 circuit CPS27 (BU/BN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E5.
    2. NO  : Go to  E4.
  4. E4 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS27 (BU/BN) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C352
    • Measure the resistance between seat control switch C352-5 circuit CPS27 (BU/BN), harness side and seat motor C353-2 circuit CPS27 (BU/BN), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  5. E5 CHECK VOLTAGE TO CIRCUIT CPS26 (YE/BU) 
    • While operating the seat to the rear down position, measure the voltage between seat motor C353-3 circuit CPS26 (YE/BU), harness and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new power seat track. REFER to Seat Track . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : Go to  E6.
  6. E6 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS26 (YE/BU) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C352
    • Measure the resistance between seat control switch C352-7 circuit CPS26 (YE/BU), harness side and seat motor C353-3 circuit CPS26 (YE/BU), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  7. E7 CHECK VOLTAGE TO CIRCUIT CPS25 (WH/VT) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    • Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C367
    • Disconnect: Driver Safety Belt Buckle Pretensioner C3201
    • Disconnect: Seat Motor C353
      • WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
    • Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
    • While operating the seat to the front up position, measure the voltage between seat motor C353-6 circuit CPS25 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E9.
    2. NO  : Go to  E8.
  8. E8 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS25 (WH/VT) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C352
    • Measure the resistance between seat control switch C352-1 circuit CPS25 (WH/VT), harness side and seat motor C353-6 circuit CPS25 (WH/VT), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E9.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  9. E9 CHECK VOLTAGE TO CIRCUIT CPS24 (GY) 
    • While operating the seat control switch to the front down position, measure the voltage between seat motor C353-5 circuit CPS24 (GY), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new power seat track. REFER to Seat Track . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : Go to  E10.
  10. E10 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS24 (GY) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C352
    • Measure the resistance between seat control switch C352-8 circuit CPS24 (GY), harness side and seat motor C353-5 circuit CPS24 (GY), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  11. E11 CHECK VOLTAGE TO CIRCUIT CPS23 (GN/VT) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    • Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C367
    • Disconnect: Driver Safety Belt Buckle Pretensioner C3201
    • Disconnect: Seat Motor C353
      • WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
    • Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
    • While operating the seat control switch to the forward position, measure the voltage between seat motor C353-4 circuit CPS23 (GN/VT), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E13.
    2. NO  : Go to  E12.
  12. E12 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS23 (GN/VT) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C352
    • Measure the resistance between seat control switch C352-3 circuit CPS23 (GN/VT), harness side and seat motor C353-4 circuit CPS23 (GN/VT), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  13. E13 CHECK VOLTAGE TO CIRCUIT CPS28 (GN) 
    • While operating the seat to the rearward position, measure the voltage between seat motor C353-1 circuit CPS28 (GN), harness and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new front seat track. REFER to Seat Track . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : Go to  E14.
  14. E14 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS28 (GN) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C352
    • Measure the resistance between seat control switch C352-6 circuit CPS28 (GN), harness side and seat motor C353-1 circuit CPS28 (GN), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 and driver seat side air bag C367.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
