Removal And Installation

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
If equipped, remove the front skid plate nuts and the front skid plate.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).

Remove the front driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT article.
Remove the halfshafts. For additional information, refer to FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS article.
Remove the 4 crossmember bolts and the crossmember.
- To install, tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).

Use a high-lift jack to support the axle assembly.

Remove the axle tube bushing nut and axle tube bushing bolt.
- To install, tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

Remove the lower mounting bushing bolt.
- To install, tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

Remove the bolt from the lower steering shaft-to-steering gear and disconnect the coupler from the rack.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

Remove the upper mounting bushing bolt.
- To install, tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

Carefully lower the axle assembly.
Disconnect the vent hose from the axle vent.

NOTE: Make sure the axle vent hose is connected.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
