Pinpoint Test E: The Power Seat Does Not Move Horizontally/Vertically

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when taking measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
  1. E1 CHECK THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION 
    • Operate the seat control switch in the forward and rearward positions.
    • Does the seat move horizontally? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E5.
    2. NO  : Go to  E2.
  2. E2 CHECK VOLTAGE TO THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    • Disconnect: Driver Seat Safety Belt Buckle Pretensioner C3338
    • Disconnect: Power Seat Motor Assembly C339
    • WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
    • Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.

    • Measure the voltage between power seat motor assembly C339-1, circuit 981 (RD/WH), harness side and C339-4, circuit 980 (YE/WH), harness side, while operating the seat control switch forward and rearward.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the seat control switch is toggled in both directions and 0 volts in the rest position? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat track. REFER to Seat Track - Front . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : Go to  E3.
  3. E3 CHECK CIRCUIT 980 (YE/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C360

    • Measure the resistance between power seat motor assembly C339-4, circuit 980 (YE/WH), harness side and seat control switch C360-5, circuit 980 (YE/WH), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the power seat motor and seat control switch? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 980 (YE/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  4. E4 CHECK CIRCUIT 981 (RD/WH) FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure the resistance between power seat motor assembly C339-1, circuit 981 (RD/WH), harness side and seat control switch C360-2, circuit 981 (RD/WH), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the power seat motor and seat control switch? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 981 (RD/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  5. E5 DETERMINE SEAT HEIGHT ADJUST FAILURE 
    • Operate the seat control switch in the front up/down and rear up/down positions and determine the seat height adjust failure.
    • Does the seat front or rear height adjust up and down? 
    1. YES  : If only the front height adjust operates, go to  E6.

      If only the rear height adjust operates, go to  E9.

    2. NO  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. E6 CHECK VOLTAGE TO THE REAR HEIGHT MOTOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    • Disconnect: Driver Seat Safety Belt Buckle Pretensioner C3338
    • Disconnect: Power Seat Motor Assembly C339

    • Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.

    • Measure the voltage between power seat motor assembly C339-5, circuit 983 (RD/LG), harness side and C339-6, circuit 982 (YE/LG), harness side; while operating the seat control switch rear height adjust up and down.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the seat control switch is toggled in both directions and 0 volts in the rest position? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat track. REFER to Seat Track - Front . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : Go to  E7.
  7. E7 CHECK CIRCUIT 983 (RD/LG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C360

    • Measure the resistance between power seat motor assembly C339-5, circuit 983 (RD/LG), harness side and seat control switch C360-4, circuit 983 (RD/LG), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the power seat motor and seat control switch? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E8.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 983 (RD/LG). TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  8. E8 CHECK CIRCUIT 982 (YE/LG) FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure the resistance between power seat motor assembly C339-6, circuit 982 (YE/LG), harness side and seat control switch C360-7, circuit 982 (YE/LG), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the power seat motor and seat control switch? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 982 (YE/LG). TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  9. E9 CHECK VOLTAGE TO THE FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    • Disconnect: Driver Seat Safety Belt Buckle Pretensioner C3338
    • Disconnect: Power Seat Motor Assembly C339
    • WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
    • Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.

    • Measure the voltage between power seat motor assembly C339-3, circuit 979 (RD/LB), harness side and C339-2, circuit 990 (YE/LB), harness side; while operating the seat control switch front height adjust up and down.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the seat control switch is toggled in both directions and 0 volts in the rest position? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat track. REFER to Seat Track - Front . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : Go to  E10.
  10. E10 CHECK CIRCUIT 979 (RD/LB) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C360

    • Measure the resistance between power seat motor assembly C339-3, circuit 979 (RD/LB), harness side and seat control switch C360-6, circuit 979 (RD/LB), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the power seat motor and seat control switch? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E11.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 979 (RD/LB). TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

  11. E11 CHECK CIRCUIT 990 (YE/LB) FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure the resistance between power seat motor assembly C339-2, circuit 990 (YE/LB), harness side and seat control switch C360-8, circuit 990 (YE/LB), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the power seat motor and seat control switch? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 990 (YE/LB). TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3338. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
