Pinpoint Test A: The Clock Is Inoperative

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  1. A1 CHECK CIRCUIT SBP14 (BN/RD) FOR VOLTAGE
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Clock C2016.
    • Measure the voltage between the clock C2016-6, circuit SBP14 (BN/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
  2. A2 CHECK CIRCUIT GD138 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
    • Measure the resistance between the clock C2016-5, circuit GD138 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    • Yes:  INSTALL a new clock. REFER to CLOCK  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No:  REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. A3 CHECK CIRCUIT SBP14 (BN/RD) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: SJB  C2280b.
    • Measure the resistance between the SJB  C2280b-4, circuit SBP14 (BN/RD), harness side and the clock C2016-6, circuit SBP14 (BN/RD), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    • Yes:  GO to A4  .
    • No:  REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
    • Disconnect all the SJB  connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB  connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?
