Pinpoint Test K: The Anti-Lock Brake System (Abs) Warning Indicator Is Always On

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. K1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SELF-TESTS 
    • Check the recorded instrument cluster DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-test.
    • Is DTC C1221 present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  K6.
    2. NO  : Go to  K2.
  2. K2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND ABS MODULE SELF-TESTS 
    • Check the recorded ABS module DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-test.
    • Are any DTCs present? 
    1. YES  : REFER to VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEMS to diagnose the ABS DTCs.
    2. NO  : Go to  K3.
  3. K3 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Observe the brake warning indicator.
    • Is the brake warning indicator illuminated? 
    1. YES  : Go to Pinpoint Test I  to diagnosis the brake warning indicator.
    2. NO  : Go to  K4.
  4. K4 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Active Command
    • Select the instrument cluster indicator lamp control command. Select the ABS active command on and then off again. Observe the ABS warning indicator.
    • Does the ABS warning indicator illuminate when commanded on, and turn off when commanded off? 
    1. YES  : Go to  K5.
    2. NO  : Go to  K8.
  5. K5 CHECK CIRCUIT CCA01 (BU/OG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b

    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b-18, circuit CCA01 (BU/OG), harness side and the ABS module C135-17, circuit CCA01 (BU/OG), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  K6.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. K6 CHECK CIRCUIT CCA01 (BU/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b

    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b-18, circuit CCA01 (BU/OG), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  K7.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. K7 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the ABS module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the ABS module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEMS . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  8. K8 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
