Pinpoint Test J: The Anti-Lock Brake System (Abs) Warning Indicator Is Never On

  1. J1 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Active Command
    • Select the instrument cluster indicator lamp control command. Select the ABS active command on. Observe the ABS warning indicator.
    • Does the ABS warning indicator illuminate when commanded on? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J2.
    2. NO  : Go to  J4.
  2. J2 VERIFY THE ABS MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135
    • Key in ON position.
    • Observe the ABS warning indicator.
    • Does the ABS warning indicator illuminate? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J3.
    2. NO  : Go to  J4.
  3. J3 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the ABS module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the ABS module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEMS . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  4. J4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
